Mock Test 1

Important information you need to know about the NATA test and before you start using this online study material – Please read very carefully
Before you start studying for the NATA it is important that you go through these instructions carefully, this will help you to
·         Understand the basic structure of the NATA test
·         Understand the syllabus and type of questions being asked
·         Plan your study accordingly so that you make optimized use of your study time,

An introduction to the NATA test,
The NATA test has 2 sections, taking a total of 3 hours to answer
Section 1: Drawing part of the test
Section 2: Computer Based online aesthetic sensitivity test
More about these 2 sections,
Section 1: Drawing part of the test (Paper Based)
This section is for 100 marks and has to be completed in two hours, it has 3 questions
Question 1: Theme sketch for 50 marks
Question 2: Two Dimensional composition for 25 marks
Question 3: Three Dimensional composition for 25 marks
Explanation: What do these types of questions contain?
Question 1: Theme sketch for 50 marks
To answer these questions you need to understand in detail
·         1 point perspective
·         2 point perspective
·         3 point perspective
·         Horizon line
·         Vanishing point
·         Bird’s eye view
·         Worm’s eye view
Example 1: you are in the balcony of a 2 storey building looking down at a temple with people around it and a garden, it is mid afternoon, draw the scene along with shadows and lighting,
Example: you are inside a pencil box the top of the pencil box is pen, draw the scene,
Go to the link and view the examples given there.
Question 2: Two Dimensional composition for 25 marks
Example 1: use a hexagon, triangle, circle and a rectangle and create an interesting 2D composition of your choice, colour these with 5 colours of your choice,
Example 2: use the basic geometric shapes of a bicycle and create and interesting 2D composition of your choice,
Go to the link  and view the examples given there.
Question 3: Three Dimensional composition for 25 marks
This type of question is very similar to the previous 2D question just that instead of flat 2D objects you use 3D objects instead,
Example 1: use a rectangular box, a prism and a sphere to create an interesting stable 3D composition
Example 2: Use the basic geometric shapes of a football, candle and funnel to create an interesting 3D composition of your choice.
For question 2 or 3 they could ask you to colour your answer with 3, 4 or 5 colours of your choice, to choose your colours you would have to know,
·         What is the colour theory
·         What is the colour wheel
·         What are cool colours & Warm colours
·         What are complementary, Analogous, Triadic,  colours

Section 2 is online computer based test on aesthetic sensitivity for 100 marks. Test Duration 1 hour.
This is a computer adaptive test online with 40 questions
First you need to understand that is a computer adaptive test,
Every question is rated with a degree of difficulty, let us say to understand each question in the database is rated from 1 to 10, 1 being easy and 10 being a difficult question, so if a question in terms of degree of difficulty is ranked 5 that means if 100 students answer this question 50 would tend to get it right and 50 would tend to get it wrong, if a question is ranking say 1 that would mean out of 100 students that take the question 90 would get it right and only 10 would get it wrong which determines that it is an easy question and vice versa for a difficult question rated say 9
So at the end your online computer based test, you will get your scores immediately, after you finish the 40th question it will show you the number of questions you got right, your weighted score, your degree of difficulty, your weighted score is your score out of 100
Note the results of your drawing based paper test will come after a few days along with your NATA score card.
So now that you know the basics about a computer adaptive test, you need to keep the following in mind
·         All students start off with an average 50 percentile question
·         If you answer your question right you get a slightly tougher question
·         You answer that right your next question is a little more tougher
·         If you answer any question wrong you get an easier question
·         So the test adapts itself to how you answer your pervious question giving you tougher or easier questions
·         Once you answer a question you cannot go back to the pervious question
·         Each question could vary in timing from 40 to 90 seconds depending on the degree of difficulty of each question
·         Do not leave any question blank if you do not know in the last few seconds at least try and attempt the question
These are multiple choice questions with 4 answers to choose from.
Now that you understand the basics of a computer online adaptive test, this is the approximate split of the 40 question asked in the test: please note this spilt is not a hard and fast rule but it is an average, so you could get a slight variation in your test, however it gives you a guideline as to how to concentrate and plan your time to study each section of this test,
·         Mental ability - approximately 15 questions
·         Mathematics - approximately 5 questions
·         English - approximately 5 questions
·         Images - approximately 8 questions
·         Architectural Awareness - approximately 7 questions
Like we said again this is an approximate ratio of questions asked
About these sections again in a little more detail
Mental ability
Usually the types of questions asked are
1.    3D objects you with arrows point out asking you the plan, front or isometric view, also how many oblique surfaces, horizontal surfaces, vertices, vertical lines etc, does this object contain, this is a very important and easy type of question .
2.    A series of boxes with shapes in them and you have to choose the odd ones out, or complete the series.
3.    Paper folding, a paper is folded and punched with a hole, if it is opened what do that punched holes look like .
Mathematics
These contains subjective an objective type of questions from arithmetic, algebra and geometry
1.    If the perimeter of a rectangular garden plot is 34 feet and its area is 60 sq feet, What is the length of each of the longer sides?
2.    The price of a certain TV set is discounted by 10% and the reduced price is then discounted by 10%, The series of successive discounts is equivalent to a single discount of?

English
These are 2 types of question asked
1.    Antonyms and Synonyms Example the word taciturn is closed to
2.    Work Analogies: Example Carpenter: Chisel:: Electrician.
Image type of questions:
In this there are 2 types of question that are asked
1.    An image of a monument is shown and you are supposed to identify it, this could be Indian or international, modern or ancient, Example you could be asked an Indian fort or the modern Burj-Al-Arab
2.    An image of material is shown and you are supposed to identify it, Example: materials shown could be aluminum plates, stucco plaster, jute etc

Architectural awareness
Here the type of question asked could be
a.    Factual: for Example
                                          i.    The highest award for an architect is?
ii.    The hanging gardens of Babylon are situated in present day which country?
b.    Reasoning: for Example
                                          i.    The columns of the top in the top of a building are thinner than the ones are the bottom?
ii.    Why do pipes crack in winter?
c.    Materials: for Example
                                          i.    Bathroom fittings are smooth or glossy?
ii.    Swimming pool tiles are smooth or rough?

Please use these as guidelines before you start studying to plan your study for the NATA test
